Passive Solar House Plans

Passive solar house plans are the established examples and effective ways of going green in building homes.  To move solar heat, electrical or mechanical devices are not used in designing passive solar house.  The windows, walls, and floors are well designed to distribute, store and collect solar energy during winter in the form of heat, and disallow solar heat during summer.  The main difference between passive solar and traditional house design is that a house that has passive solar gets the benefits of the local climate.  It is aesthetic, comfortable and energy efficient.

A good example given to us by nature is a broadleaf tree that provides its leaves during summer season giving protection and shade for all things underneath it. The ground is not directly exposed to the heat of the sun and is much cooler.  However, the effect during winter is opposite.  The leaves of the broadleaf tree will fall and the hot winter sun will heat up the earth making it warm throughout the season.

The result is Passive Solar, and it is what every house builders should integrate in designing passive solar house plans.  The house can block the heat from the sun in a manner that prevents it from warming the house and let the sun come openly into the house during winter by using several angles of the winter and summer solstice (sun’s direction during another season of the year).

Using CAD software is generally practiced by designers that place the angle of the sun automatically at different periods of the year to emphasize how the sun will have an effect on the house every season.  This information is very important in designing passive solar house plans and should be presented to the future home builders.  Homeowners who would like to lessen their carbon effect on the environment will be given a very real advantage.  By means of our natural essential features, through ingenious designs, a comfortable living environment can be maintained without using any air conditioners, heaters, and other energy resources.

While passive solar house plans should be considered in designing a new house, it is just one aspect that everyone must be aware in doing a big favor to our environment.
